Our week concluded as always with a very positive and uplifting assembly this afternoon as we celebrated the many achievements, deeds, hard work and effort of our wonderful students.

We spoke of the wonderful work over the past number of weeks in all classes as we explored the theme of Polar Exploration. It has been a learning experience and a joy to visit our rooms and see this at first hand. A special word of thanks to Rang a Sé who concluded our project/theme with a beautiful ballad documenting the life of the Ice Man Tom Crean. Maith sibh!

Another extremely busy week here in St.Attracta’s. It really has flown by! This afternoon it was also lovely to welcome our new Junior Infant Class 19/20 to our school and we very much look forward to having them back with us in September.

As always it was a very difficult choice for all the teachers to select their ‘Students of the Week’ with so many students working so well. However this afternoon we learned as always of students working so hard whilst being helpful, kind, reliable and eager to take part in all class activities. It was great to hear of Senior students who are very mature and are a positive influence on their classmates, setting a great example throughout the school while learning of others who have made significant strides in recent times particularly in areas they may previously have foun:

Students of the Week Friday February 1st

We had a very special assembly this morning as we celebrated the conclusion to Catholic School Week. Fr Johnston joined us and led a beautiful prayer service in which many of our students participated. As always, we thank Fr Johnston for his support and continued interest in our school.

Assembly followed where we focused on a theme that rings true with us all. We can only do our best and as a result should always try to do our best. Nobody is perfect and we learned that many of our children are working hard to do their best everyday.I can’t is no longer on our minds but I can!

In recent week’s all our students have been making a huge effort with handwriting. Well done to all who were selected in our handwriting competition and to those who have made a huge effort in recent weeks.

Teachers also told us of children who are trying so hard to improve in their classrooms and with their school work. We heard about children who take great responsibility and pride in their excellent behaviour. It’s a very mature attitude to see displayed in our school. As always teachers told us that it’s always a difficult decision to come to each week as so children are very achievers and in contention.

Another very pleasing aspect of todays assembly was hearing of children who have made huge efforts in being a very good team member in their respective classrooms. Collaboration is so important and these students have worked so hard with others to produce excellent work with their peers.

Maith sibh go léir. Táimid fíor bhródúil asaibh.

Students of the Week Friday January 25th

At assembly on Friday afternoon we had a lovely discussion about Grandparents Day which is part of Catholic Schools Week. Teachers told us of children who are trying their best to improve in their classrooms and in their work. The efforts made by these children inspire not only their fellow students but their teachers also.

They talked about children who are so adaptable as they are always trying their best, or even trying to do better than they did last week. We heard of pupils who despite all that is going on around them in school, dramas, art work and projects are still working hard and applying themselves to any task set before them.

We all know and appreciate how busy and hectic school can be, so we are so proud of our children’s abilities to remain focused on their work and not be distracted by the other things going on. Our teachers spoke of children who do not always find change easy but who are now adapting to changes more readily. We also heard teachers talk about the manners shown to them, to visitors and to each other. It’s a lovely thing to hear being praised in our children.

As always our teachers spoke of the commitment to peers shown by students and their high levels of interaction with their own classmates and the other students. To hear consistently of these students make us very proud. Máith sibh go léir. Táimid fíor bhródúil asaibh.

Dates for your Diary

Catholic School’s Week begins today in our parish and school. An important part of this week as mentioned is Grandparents Day.

To mark this special day ‘Grandparents’ Day’ on Wednesday next at 10 am we will have a special mass in St. James’ Church. All our grandparents are invited to join us for refreshments in the school hall after mass and to then visit their grandchildren’s classrooms. We look forward to welcoming our Grandparents and acknowledging the very important role they play in our lives.

Students of the Week Friday January 18th

Táimid fíor bhródúil anseo ar scoil as ucht na scolairí atá againn. Bhí cuir síos den scoth déanta ag na múinteoirí faoi bhuanna agus obair na daltaí thuas.

Once again this week we are proud teachers of our wonderful pupils here in St. Attracta’s. At our weekly assembly the teachers gave a great description of the talents and attitudes towards hard work that our pupils of the week possess.

We learned of pupils who have made great improvements and are setting further challenges for themselves and we heard of pupils who are always happy even on challenging days and those who have faced new and exciting challenges with determination and good humour. As always we heard of students who could be given this coveted award each week.

We are so pleased with the engagement of all our pupils with our whole school theme of ‘Polar Exploration’. Throughout this week we saw many examples of wonderful work in all our classes. It really promises to be a very exciting few weeks here in school.

To conclude as always well done to all of our Students of the Week and to all our students who continue to try their best in all that they do. Maith sibh go léir.

Students of the Week Friday January 11th

Welcome back everyone, we hope you all had a lovely Christmas and have a very healthy and happy year ahead.

Our first week of the new year in school has really flown. It has been all hands on deck in all our classes as we embraced our new whole school theme of Polar Exploration. All our teachers reported to be delighted with their students efforts throughout the past week. Tús maith leath na hoibre!

As it is the start of the new year we learned of children who returned to school full of enthusiasm for the new year. Teachers described children who have appeared to have made New Year’s resolutions and are living up to them in class. It is never too late to try something new or give doing something a different way a chance. We heard children described as young teachers in the making and an example to our school. A caring, kind and considerate attitude towards others is a lovely description of our students. We strive to do our best, to show our best and to be our best.

Maith sibh go léir. Táimid fíor bhródúil asaibh.

Bainigí taitneamh as an deireadh seachtaine!

Beannachtaí Na Nollag

On behalf of all the staff at St. Attracta’s N.S., I would like to wish all our pupils, past pupils and their families a very happy and peaceful Christmas.

As always we would like to thank our parent body and the wider Charlestown community sincerely for all their help and support throughout the past year. It is very much appreciated.

Finally we hope Santa comes to all our wonderful students, bed early everyone tonight!

Nollaig faoi shéan agus athbhliain faoi mhaise daoibh go léir.

Le meas,

Brian McDermott

Cuairt Daidí na Nollag

Tháinig Daidí na Nollag ar cuairt chuig Scoil Naomh Athracht ar maidin. Bhí sceitimíní áthais ar na páistí!

Santa visited the very excited boys and girls of St.Attracta’s on this morning. He arrived in style in a Garda car due to Rudolph experiencing some flying difficulties which grounded him at Knock Airport!

Santa brought treats with him for all the children and imparted wise words for the build up to Christmas! It was a lovely way to finish the term.

Santa returned to Knock Airport where he was reunited with Rudolph who was by now back in action after some running repairs. We believe he then returned to Lapland for a good rest before his long journey on Monday night.

A special word of thanks to Garda Colm and Garda Gavin who saved the day and of course to Daidí na Nollag for taking time out at this extremely busy time to visit our school.
