Students of the Week Friday December 13th

Creating a positive atmosphere in St.Attracta’s is central to what we do. We believe that children learn best in an atmosphere of respect and positive reinforcement. As a result we celebrate the achievements of the children each week at assembly. Our students strive hard for the accolade of ‘Student of the Week’ and in turn work hard to achieve it!

In the coming week we will have a group photo of all our students who have been fortunate to chosen so far this year, however we will start this week with our Students of the Week for this week ending December 13th.

A final word to those who have yet to get there ‘There is always next week’!

A note will go out to all the children on Tuesday about the arrangements for the evening. As always we will ask for your support in assisting with the smooth running of events, this will be detailed on the aforementioned note.

Finally a word of thanks to all who attended and participated in the Parish Carol Service. It really was a lovely celebration and a special Parish event.

Millie Swims in the Connaught School’s Championships

Congratulations to Millie Pilcher in Mr.Rushe’s Third and Fourth Class who last weekend swam in the Connaught Minor Schools Championships in Leisureland Galway. Millie swam in two events the Backstroke and the Freestyle recording fantastic times. This was the first time our school has had a representative in the finals and we are so proud of Millie’s efforts.

Millie swims with Claremorris Swimming Club and trains three times each week. Well done Millie!

Parish Carol Service

The annual Parish Christmas Carol Service will take place in St. James’ Church this Wednesday evening at 7.00 p.m.

The children have been asked to be present for 6.40 p.m. at the latest.

Junior and Senior Infants who will be angels on the night have been asked to dress in a white t-shirt/shirt with some tinsel as headwear. There is no need to go any expense, something very simple will suffice.

1st to 6th are asked to wear their full school uniform and bring a Santa Hat along if they have one. Again if not, that’s fine also.

We look forward to what is always a special evening in the Parish!

Kennedy’s Cadets

Michael McGrath visits 5th and 6th Class

Michael McGrath (Grandfather of our students Jake,Jessica and Roisín Casey) visited our school on Monday last. Michael’s visit coincided with the 50th anniversary of the death of John F.Kennedy in Dallas Texas. Michael told our captivated 5th and 6th class students of how as a young Army Cadet he took part in a special guard of honour at the graveside of the fallen leader in Arlington Cemetery Virginia, leaving all his audience enthralled with his memories.Michael gave our students a fantastic insight into life in Ireland and indeed the world at that time, giving a great context to the death of President Kennedy and his importance and relevance to Ireland.
We were delighted that Michael took the time to visit our school and thank him sincerely for sharing his wonderful story.
