Our boys had a fantastic but busy morning playing four games.Despite playing Cuilí for the first time they managed to achieve a win and a draw, maith sibh!

Thank you to Ms.Henry who proved to be a very successful coach! We all hope this will be the start of new sport in our school.

Rang 1/2: School Tour to Achill Aquarium. Art Workshop and Keel Beach!

Rang 1/2 set off early today from school with our school tour to Achill with Marty as driver. The weather was beautiful and the scenery was great on the bumpy roads over to the island. Mrs. Reilly even sat in the back seat to enjoy the bumps!

We arrived at the Aquarium where Elaine, Linda and Carol Ann were waiting for the children with drink and bars to cool us down after the long journey. They made pop up cards in a big room with lots of different markers and colours.

Then the children went into the aquarium where Tom told them all about the different fish in the tanks, and even showed us where some were hiding! We got to hold little starfish and feel the huge spiny starfish! He told us they can even regrow their legs! He lifted a cat shark out of the tank and he was very scary! The scallops were squirting water at everyone. Ms. Connaghan and Mrs. Reilly both got sprayed! Mrs. McCafferty was standing well back!

We had a lovely lunch in a restaurant and then went to Keel beach. The water was very warm and we didn’t mind getting a little wet! The weather was absolutely fantastic and we would have stayed there all day if we could.

Our children as always are a pleasure to take anywhere. A lovely day was had by all.

Girls Team Beaten in Cumann na mBunscol Semi Final

IMG_0278

Commiserations to our ‘Girls Team’ who were beaten earlier by Bekan N.S. in their Cumann na mBunscol County Semi Final on a scoreline of 2-8 to 1-7.

Our girls got off to a flying start and led by two points at half time 1-3 to 0-4, this despite hitting the crossbar and unfortunately missing some gilt edged opportunities.

Bekan N.S. came out of the blocks much stronger in the second half scoring two early goals, putting us on the backfoot. Our girls to their immense credit battled heroically (hitting the post twice again) to the end and on another day could have seen the result go in their favour.

We are so proud of each of the girls particularly those from 6th Class who represented their school for the final time. The girls can have no regrets as they gave their all.

Well done to all the girls who have had a fantastic year, its great to see so many playing for their club here in Charlestown. These talented ladies can only go from strength to strength.. Maith sibh go léir!

Amy and Jessica Star with the Mayo U12 Girls Soccer Team

IMG_0258

Comhghairdeachas mór le Jessica Casey (Striker) and Amy Mahon (Goalkeeper) from our Fourth and Sixth Classes who on Sunday last represented the Mayo U-12 Girls Soccer team at a blitz in Inishowen Co.Donegal.

Both girls played starring roles as the ‘Mayo team’ progressed through a difficult group and knockout stages before succumbing to an excellent Dublin team in the final.

The selection of the girls was a wonderful honour and one which their club ‘Charlestown Athletic’ can be very proud of.

Maith sibh a chailiní,well done, all here at St.Attracta’s are also so proud of you!

Students of the Week Friday May 20th

At our weekly assembly the children were praised for their enthusiasm and eagerness to take part in all school activities. Many children were commended on always giving their best effort and one child’s work was described as a pleasure to look at.

We learned of others who have impressed in their classrooms with a changing attitude, becoming more independent and trying their very best and of those who are excellent role model’s and a great help to the younger students and indeed, the teachers, in our school.

The importance of working hard at homework was also highlighted and one student is progressing very well in Maths due to the effort she puts in at home as well as school.

A great example to all our students to finish the school year in style !

Maith sibh!

It was a wonderful success made possible by the kindness of our students and their families. Well done to all our senior students who worked very hard over the course of the project, lernin mant life skills in the process.

Cumann na mBunscol

Students of the Week Friday 13th May

IMG_4902

Friday the 13th turned out to be a lucky day for these bunch of pupils. Today at assembly we learned again of random acts of kindness throughout the school. Children were awarded student of the week because their teacher had noticed them doing something kind without being encouraged. While it may not be acknowledged at the time it is always noticed!

We also heard of children who try their best despite having setbacks. They show their perseverance by their willingness to aim for success again and again.

Today we had proof that hard work and perseverance pays off. We were told about children who have made considerable effort in particular areas and are having great success. It isn’t always about huge changes. Small steady steps will always get you to where you want to go.
Again, teachers told us that it is hard at times to only pick one of their students as all are making great progress in their own way. We are so proud as a staff of these achievements and of all of our pupils. Maith sibh go léir.

Junior Entrepreneur: Sincere thanks to all who again supported Rang 5/6 ‘Pantastic’ this morning. It was a great success. We hope you all enjoyed your pancakes.
Next Friday morning marks the end of our project. We have some delicious additions planned to add to our menu next week.

Finally we would like to remind you all of our MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING EVENING on Wednesday next. It promises to be a very informative and worthwhile evening.

Cumann na mBunscol Quarter Finals v Roundfort NS

IMG_0215

Congratulations to our Girls team who earlier today progressed to the Cumann na mBunscol Semi Finals after a hard fought game against Roundfort NS at the Connaught Centre of Excellence.

As with our area final, it was a great team display with all the girls playing their part in ensuring we progressed. Well done in particular to our younger team members from Fourth Class who are representing their school for the first time. We area waiting confirmation of our Semi Final opponents which will take place on either May 26th/27th.(Date to be confirmed)

Our Boys followed again against Roundfort NS in the Shield Quarter Final and despite a very brave and courageous performance came up just short against an excellent team. As with our ‘Girls’ we had many younger members of our team performing very well against older opposition. A special word must also go to our senior boys who tried so hard and gave their all. We are so proud of all their efforts.
